The South Gosforth Orchestra (SGO) was founded in 1906 and is one of Newcastle’s oldest amateur orchestras. We play a wide range of orchestral music, dating from the 17th to 20th centuries, including Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Operatic. We have an ‘open-door’ policy and there are no auditions. We supply the music: all you have to do is bring along your musical instrument and enthusiasm to join in!
We hold rehearsals every Wednesday in Benton, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, so it is a good way to relax at the end of the day.
We are particularly keen on new string players of any ability.
